About Us

- Hey Ladies -

I am Letrice, Owner of Okai Fabrics.  From the core of my heart, I want to thank you for your support. I realize that you work hard for your coins and I am grateful that you are shopping with me.

I started Okai Fabrics in March 2016. At that time, my Ghanaian-native husband and I were married for 2 years but living on separate continents as we were waiting for immigration to allow him to join me in the states. I was battling depression because I missed him dearly and just wanted to be united with him. I woke up one morning with the idea of starting a business with my husband.By starting the business, I knew I would feel connected to him.

Whenever I would visit Ghana, I was always captivated by the bold and vibrant prints that the locals wore yet when I would return to the states, the only "African fabric" I could find would be cheap Kente-inspired fabric or fabric with elephants and giraffes on it. I wanted my people to un-learn what we are taught Africa looks like and expose its beauty to the masses so I started the company being a wholesaler of African Fabric, hence the name. I would often meet potential customers who would love the prints I offered but didn't know anyone that sewed so I taught myself how to sew.

In April 2018, I launched the website offering my Handcrafted Headwraps and it has been well received. In July 2018, after 4 years, 4 months and 16 days, my husband joined me in the states. I resigned from my corporate job of 12 years to pursue my dream full-time which was totally a step out on faith but I believe this is only the beginning. There is so much more God and I have in store for you all.  Okai Fabrics WILL be a full clothing line and I invite you to come along for the journey.

I want you all to remember that you are BEAUTIFUL just the way you are and you can do WHATEVER you put your mind to do.  Blessings to you!

With Love,
