Welcome to Okai Fabrics. We are glad to have you here!

The 2019 Fall Collection

I want to take this time to thank you for your support during our business journey but especially during the last 3 months while I was on maternity leave following the birth of our daughter Skylar. While I truly enjoyed bonding with my sweet and precious child, I was excited to return back to work to show you all what I have been working on.

Skylar is my inspiration for the Fall Collection. In the Ghanaian tradition, your name is given based on the day of the week you were born. For example, I was born on a Tuesday so my unofficial Ghanaian name is Abena. It is very important to me that Skylar stays connected to her Ghanaian roots therefore I wanted to continue the tradition.  The interesting part about all of this is that no one knew when she would be born.  My contractions started on a Friday. I was in active labor for 2 days before Skylar graced the world with her presence on a Wednesday.   Each day, I would say her full name with that day's Ghanaian name and nothing seemed to flow until we got to Wednesday and she was born Akua.

As with every release, I put much thought into the names of my headwraps because I want them to have personality and meaning so I hope that you love the ones you choose and thank you for shopping with Okai Fabrics.

  • I love you, Hon. Glad you’re doing well. Can’t wait to meet Skylar. She’s a mini mogul in the making.
